Student Checklist (Fall Semester)
- Form the teams and determine Challenge – sea, air or land
- Register online – each team member must register
- Recruit Industry mentor (s) with technical/engineering expertise
- $500 is the maximum budget for supplies
- Classroom with space to design and build
- Access to tools
- Block off time in January through April (a minimum commitment of 2 hours a week for 12 weeks)
Student Checklist (Spring Semester)
- Schedule team meetings and establish a team structure that encourages full participation
- Designate a Team Leader to set and complete objectives
- Designate a Finance Chairperson to follow up with fund-raising efforts and team budget preparations
- Designate a Purchasing Chairperson
- Ensure participation safety at all times
- Set up monthly Skype sessions or other method to connect with industry mentors
- Write and submit a Preliminary Design Review (PDR) document
- Test team robotics prior to Challenge Day
- Air teams submit a Pilot Qualification video
- Attend Challenge Day
Sea, Air and Land Team Structure
Teams should be made up of 3 to 10 high school students per team and are required to assign at least one educator and one industry mentor. School districts can enter as many teams as they wish. Home-schooled teams and youth organizations are also welcome.
