The Sea, Air and Land Challenge is different from other robotic competitions as it focuses on the engineering design process. Educators and advisors do not need a background in engineering to present this program to their students as information is shared via the website, and each team is paired with a volunteer engineering mentor. The Challenges are relevant to problems encountered by the military and first responders and give the students a chance to solve real-world-based missions. In addition, we provide insight into tremendous technical careers available in the Department of Defense, armed forces and industry, plus, we don’t know of any other STEM activities where the students get to interact with Navy SEALS and other special operation forces.
