AMA

The Academy of Model Aeronautics or AMA is the world’s largest model aviation organization representing over 150,000 members.   There are over 2500 clubs across the U.S and membership is open to anyone interested in model aviation including drones, control line aircraft, soaring, free flight, scale models and helicopters.  The AMA promotes, among other activities, safety and instruction in a variety of formats and is dedicated to leadership, education and scientific and technical development related to model aviation.

The choice of a SeAL Challenge team to compete in the Air Challenge  using an unmanned vehicle (drone) and payload system often has the students working on activities which are new to them.  Knowledgeable AMA members may assist the educator, mentor and student team with the experience of building a drone or learning how to fly safely and competently.  Alternatively, AMA members may assist with the Air Challenge on Challenge Day, either by assuring student pilot knowledge and ability to fly in control or by piloting for the team who does not have a qualified pilot on Challenge Day.
