Mary KraulandMary grew up in Chicago, earned a B.A. in mathematics and a Masters in mathematics education (M.ED). She has worked at Shady Side Academy for 35 years. She teaches high school mathematics (Calculus), is an Administrator, the Dean of Studies and, Curriculum Director. She coaches a dynamic Speech and Debate team, too! She is the calculus high school liaison for the College in High School program at the University of Pittsburgh.

Mary is married to Rich Krauland and has 2 adult children, both engineers, a son who is an Electrical Engineer from Penn State and a daughter with her PhD in Applied Physics from the University of Michigan. Rick age 34, works on the power distribution system for the next generation of nuclear submarines; and Christine age 30, is a high-energy-density plasma physicist, doing experimental physics as part of an international team working on laser-fusion development.
