Student Checklist (Fall Semester)

  • Form the teams and determine Challenge – sea, air or land
  • Register online – each team member must register
  • Recruit Industry mentor (s) with technical/engineering expertise
  • $500 is the maximum budget for supplies
  • Classroom with space to design and build
  • Access to tools
  • Block off time in January through April (a minimum commitment of 2 hours a week for 12 weeks)

Student Checklist (Spring Semester)

  • Schedule team meetings and establish a team structure that encourages full participation
  • Designate a Team Leader to set and complete objectives
  • Designate a Finance Chairperson to follow up with fund-raising efforts and team budget preparations
  • Designate a Purchasing Chairperson
  • Ensure participation safety at all times
  • Set up monthly Skype sessions or other method to connect with industry mentors
  • Write and submit a Preliminary Design Review (PDR) document
  • Test team robotics prior to Challenge Day
  • Air teams submit a Pilot Qualification video
  • Attend Challenge Day

Sea, Air and Land Team Structure
Teams should be made up of 3 to 10 high school students per team and are required to assign at least one educator and one industry mentor. School districts can enter as many teams as they wish. Home-schooled teams and youth organizations are also welcome.
